Singer-songwriter, guitarist, actor and multi-instrumentalist, Chris Shepard has crossed the country and peppered the East Coast and beyond to Canada with his kinetic and off-kilter solo acoustic performances.
A prolific songwriter, Chris has released six albums of original music
(Caller Number 9, Sin & Tonic, Crosseyed Loaded, Hellbender, The Sweetbrier Sessions, and Oddities). In 2020, Shepard has released a single (Treason) and a brand new EP, Fall.
Chris has taken an ever-changing and evolving mix of rock, blues and traditional musical influences and combined them to form a hearty and original primordial musical stew, ranging from serious to comedic.
Between official releases, Shepard has performed solo and fronted bands that have opened for such bands as The Dave Brockie eXperience (GWAR), Brain Surgeons, and Alex Henry Foster of Your Favorite Enemies.
Between gigs and recording, Chris has contributed music for short films and theatre productions. Chris has also brought his voice to the theatre, more recently with lead roles in Jesus Christ Superstar and Hair.

“Many songwriters are craftsmen. Chris Shepard is that, and he is also an uncompromising original artist with a unique, darkly comic vision. He is also able to write affecting lyrics and memorable melodies in conventional song format. As a performer, he has a powerful and rhythmic guitar technique, and sings with exceptional strength and range. He deserves widespread recognition. ”
Randy Walker, former music writer, Roanoke Times & World-News
“Very cool 'n' loopy, heavy and NYC-ish”
Martin Popoff - Author, Sr. Editor of Brave Worlds & Bloody Knuckles
“Good in that weird, twisted, college boy kind of style ”
Albert Bouchard - Blue Oyster Cult, The Brain Surgeons
“Funny. Talented. Sardonic. Sarcastic. Cynical. Irreverent. Intense.”
J. Gabrielle - The Valley Blend
“To know him better is to read his lyrics and hear him perform in the style he describes as “kinetic rock electrocoustic.” I just describe it as great music.”
M. Jason Turner - Star City Spectrum
“Seeing him play live almost borderlines on watching Alf and Ronnie James Dio performing songs from Schoolhouse Rock, which I would not expect to work in a live setting, but for him, it does.”
Charles Alan Reynolds - North Roanoke & Botetourt County Life
“Critics and supporters alike can listen to and muse along with the bumpy syncopations of Shepard’s voice and acoustic guitar.”
Chase Purdy - The Roanoke Times
“Quintessential, American music.”
Andrea Caumont - Left Off The Dial
"Shepard's irreverence aside, there's no questioning his playing ability."
John Persinger - The Roanoke Times
"Often madcap and sometimes politically pointed lyrics and strong guitar work."
Tad Dickens, Roanoke Times
