• C Shorty Back Story

“Hear my words, that actions speak. I never knew how good it could be.”

Atlanta based C Shorty bring their hook ladened modern rock, with touches of southern grungy blues and melody, to the local & regional music scene with their engaging live shows.

Founding members Michael Warner and Andy Cohen went to the same Atlanta high school and lived down the street from each other, but didn’t meet musically until many years later jamming and sharing musical ideas.

The bands name comes from Cohen’s chance encounter with a sexy deputy sheriff at the Atlanta Jail who's name badge read “C Shorty”, which came about the time their musical collaborations started...and C Shorty was born.

Michael: “Andy is kind of a musical genius weirdo. He throws down licks on anything new I bring him as if he wrote it first. It’s an organic process. In live shows he’s the anchor that allows me to get out there in the moment, but brings me back to remind me of what key we are playing in.”

Growing up in the same area and era of music brings with it similar tastes and musical ideologies. "We didn’t listen to all the same music, but both believe in playing to the song."

The music and the songs came from years of Warner's songwriting and Andy’s guitar chops coming together. The left brain/right brain duo brings warm harmonies, super hooks, and impressive guitar playing with thoughty, clever lyrics. The songs touch on everything rock from the 70’s to the 90’s. You might hear a touch of Zeppelin morph into Petty, on the way to Radiohead or some obscure 60’s songwriter.

Most recently the band took on covering the obscure 90’s Radiohead song ”The National Anthem”. It took months of Warner convincing Cohen that "Yes, they could do a proper cover of a song that normally ends in an acid jazz horn section” with only the 2 of them on guitar. “It’s an insane song to play live, but I’m probably more proud of that than anything else I’ve done musically” -Warner

With a new songs to be released in late 2019/ early 2020, and even more new songs that due to be recorded, 2020 looks to be the year of C Shorty.
