The Jennifer Ewan Band perform a stirring mix of compelling original songs, Louisiana blues and old-time Cajun dance music with a Celtic tint.
The band comprises singer-songwriter/guitarist Jennifer Ewan, accordionist and flautist Kim Tebble (Deaf Heights Cajun Aces), Jamie Hogg on bass and drummer Paul Dennington.
Jennifer’s Scots voice is instantly recognisable - powerful, warm, rich and distinctive. Her personal ballads soar over grooves from the Louisiana bayous and an intricate interplay of accordion, flute, acoustic guitar, bass and percussion.
In summer 2024 the Jennifer Ewan Band had the honour of supporting Bill Bailey, performing to over 5,000 people on his Summer tour at The Piece Hall, Halifax and Scarborough Open Air Theatre.
The band has a growing reputation and have performed on BBC Radio Scotland’s Janice Forsyth Show, where they were hailed as “just brilliant – music of the highest quality, a Scottish rising star”. They have also featured on that channel’s flagship live show from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Other appearances include Celtic Connections, plus a feature on Brazilian TV Show, “Traveller”.
Over the past few years the Jennifer Ewan Band has been touring the Scottish Highlands and Aberdeenshire, playing gigs and festivals across the country.
The Edinburgh Fringe Festival has a special place in Jennifer’s heart as she cut her teeth busking on the streets there, gradually working her way up to bringing her Fringe show “Bonnie Bayou” to packed out audiences at the city’s iconic Jazz Bar.
In 2023 they were delighted to be chosen to headline Mervyn Stutter’s prestigious “Pick of the Fringe”.
Edinburgh is embedded in Jennifer’s lyrics, and she knows the city from more angles than most, having worked as a guide, leading tourists through the city’s “haunted” vaults - whilst living on a Narrowboat on the city’s canals. She says “I love the vibrancy of Louisiana French Creole and of Cajun music and find the exciting mix of these genres with bluesy pop songs come together in a way that audiences really enjoy.”
The band are looking forward to a busy festival season in 2025 and, of course, returning to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
