• About the beam

Zapping into existence on a plane of its own, LazerBeam provides a familiar heavypop sound to those that listened to Lucust’s previous work in Burn Thee Insects. The Solo project of multi-instrumentalist Lucust French (Burn Thee Insects, Sno Cone), his music is heavy, unrelenting and yet pop minded and incredibly accessible. Pulling inspiration from drug and alcohol abuse, domestic abuse, stalking, being a bum, and getting beat up and knocked out ; As well as personal achievement, optimism, and hope.

With influences like Early QOTSA, The Cars, Gary Numan, Red Fang, Devil Makes Three, and Bahamas.

Imagine The story telling of The Devil Makes Three and Bahamas, in front of the music of a Qotsa-Nirvana love child. And the biggest influence of all, Operator Generator.

Diverse influences join to form a strong simple backbone of rhythm, while leaving space for the more complex and unique melodies and phrasing.

  • Story behind the Beam

In 2015, Lucust and his father Mitch (collectively Burn Thee Insects) drove to California from Arizona to record what would become Droid Intelligence. Garage demos from 2010-2013 were brought to life by the hands of producer and engineer Chris Hughes, and Twin Earth Label founder, Ric Bennett would later catch wind and help release the debut. After playing a few shows and touring, Lucust and his father ended up parting ways and Lucust moved to California.

Lazer Beam picks up right where Droid Intelligence left off and thrusts on the afterburners, finding itself in a whole new dimension. A dimension with a hooky chorus, quick witted riffs, and backwards lead playing. Songs that have a point to be made.

After jamming around Phoenix for a little over a year, Lucust had accumulated enough material for a new record and had the itch to record.
