  • Bio

Zer0Sum emerges from the grimy shadows of Blackpool with a debut EP that defies expectations and pushes the boundaries of modern EBM and Industrial music. "Denial//Realisation" is a five-track journey into the depths of the human psyche, blending cutting-edge production techniques with nods to the genre's roots.
The mastermind behind Zer0Sum, a Music Technology student at Blackpool University, brings a unique perspective to electronic music. Drawing inspiration from pioneers like Nine Inch Nails, Aphex Twin, and Depeche Mode, as well as cinematic composers John Carpenter and Ludwig Goransson, Zer0Sum crafts a sound that is both familiar and refreshingly innovative.
"Denial//Realisation" explores themes of depression, anxiety, and grief through a conceptual narrative centred on a character named Elijah. The EP's tracks, from the opening "Dissociation Ritual" to the closing "Fragmented Echoes," chart a harrowing journey of mental decline.
This storyline extends beyond the music. An accompanying short film is set for submission to international film festivals, and a novel is set for release as both an e-book and an audiobook in 2025.

    Denial//Realisation EP Tracklisting:

    1. Dissociation Ritual
    2. The Lies We Tell Ourselves (Denial)
    3. This Life (Was Never Meant For Us) feat Amanda Longrigg
    4. Only Ashes Remain (Realisation)
    5. Fragmented Echoes

Zer0Sum's production prowess shines through in the seamless fusion of analogue and digital technologies. Vintage synthesizers and samplers intertwine with modern digital synths, creating a rich tapestry of sound that pays homage to early EBM while firmly establishing itself in the contemporary electronic landscape.

The EP features a collaboration with fellow Music Technology student and vocalist Amanda Longrigg on the track "This Life (Was Never Meant For Us),"
Shrouded in mystery, Zer0Sum chooses to keep their identity concealed behind a geometric mask, symbolizing the conflicting facets of the human personality - a visual representation of the internal struggles explored in the music.
Despite the absence of a thriving electronic music scene in Blackpool, Zer0Sum is poised to make waves in the global EBM and Industrial community. With just over a year of production under their belt, this debut EP showcases a maturity and vision that belies the project's youth.
"Denial//Realisation" is more than just an EP; it's the opening chapter of a multi-media exploration of the human condition, marking Zer0Sum as an artist to watch in the electronic music world.
