About
Aqua Monkey

Emerging in 2019 from St. Clair Shores, Michigan, Aqua Monkey blends rock, alternative rock and grunge into a genre-defying sound.

Born out of Detroit’s gritty heart and raised on the raw sound of the 1990s, Aqua Monkey is a five-piece rock band that blends the angst, attitude, and authenticity of grunge with the energy and melody of alternative rock. Known for their electrifying live performances and deep connection to their community, Aqua Monkey isn’t just a band—it’s a revival of the era when music was loud, real, and unapologetically human.

In the early chaos of 2019, when the world went quiet, Aqua Monkey turned up the volume. Born in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, during the height of the COVID-19 lockdowns, Aqua Monkey began as a small spark of hope and sound in a silent world. With venues closed and people craving connection, the band took to the streets—literally—playing outdoor neighborhood shows so their community could safely gather, sing, and feel human again.
From those humble porch performances came something real: a movement, a following, and a band that reminded everyone that music doesn’t stop—even when the world does.
At the core of Aqua Monkey is a lineup of seasoned musicians whose chemistry is as strong as their sound:

Dan Morganroth – Lead Vocals & Guitar
Brad Fuller – Lead Guitar
Jim Olson – Drums
Tom Kolarik – Keys & Bass
John Sparks – Bass

Together, they deliver a tight, hard-hitting sound that fuses classic 90s grunge grit with modern alternative edge. Each member brings a distinct flavor — from Dan’s powerhouse vocals and rhythm work to Brad’s soaring lead riffs, Jim’s driving percussion, Tom’s melodic versatility, and John’s deep, steady groove.
If you’ve ever been to an Aqua Monkey show, you know it’s more than just a concert—it’s a full-body experience. The band thrives on stage energy, audience connection, and that electric buzz that only comes when everyone in the crowd is singing along to the same line.
They’ve become a regular headliner at St. Clair Shores Porch Concerts, The St. Clair Shores Memorial Day Parade, and local charity festivals throughout Metro Detroit, including benefit events supporting veterans, animal rescues, and community initiatives. Aqua Monkey is a staple of the Detroit local music scene—beloved for their down-to-earth vibe, rock-solid musicianship, and willingness to donate their time to causes that matter.
