Asphyxium Zine about Embertears and Songs For The Rain God Pt. 1 EP:
"Embertears, Albert released a series of full-lengths and EPs exploring heavy Biblical themes such as Noah and the Great Flood, and the apocalypse. The one exception is “Songs for the Rain God Pt. 1” which addresses the Spanish conquest of Central America during the 15th and 16th centuries.
Working in relative isolation, far removed from the US doom and stoner industries, Albert deconstructs and reimagines the core elements of stoner rock and sludge metal. His material... featuring downtuned yet technical guitars, faster and more intricate progressions, and a stronger emphasis on tempo shifts. Albert prioritizes complex, aggressive structures in his writing, challenging himself and his listeners with multifaceted songs.
Embertears’ lyrical concepts include the age-old biblical conflict between good and evil, man’s hubris, divine judgment, and incomprehensible apocalyptic scenarios. “Songs for the Rain God Pt. 1” specifically explores spirituality and mysticism in conflict with greed and conquest. With primal and ritualistic themes, it marked a significant development in Albert’s evolution."
Skylight Webzine (GRE) about Embertears and Red Chapter album:
"Embertears, the musical project led by Tamas (Tom) Geza Albert, produces an ambitious and complex piece in The Time of Harvest. Beginning with a slow, mysterious electric guitar intro, the tune soon creates an interesting atmosphere before the main theme appears. The guitar work especially impressive, with sophisticated time signatures, dramatic changes, and a heavy layered sound reminding of 1990s progressive metal. Fans of Dream Theater and Fates Warning will appreciate the composition’s musicianship. At 1:43, old-school thrash metal-inspired vocals appear, giving the song a rough quality. The vocal style reflects the raw anger of Testament and Metallica, creating a dynamic contrast to the complex arrangement. The interplay between the complicated guitar lines and the strong vocal performance emphasizes the song’s differed structure, maintaining the listener intrigued through. The composition and performances are outstanding, however the mix may be improved. A clearer production would highlight the complex details of the guitar work and improve the overall listening experience, allowing the Prog layers to stand out. Overall, The Time of Harvest is a powerful example of Embertears’ combination of progressive elegance with thrash metal energy. With a few tweaks to the mix, this music has the potential to become a modern classic for fans of technical metal."
Fémforgács (HUN) about Red Chapter:
"The second album by Hungarian sludge / progressive / stoner metal project Embertears has been released and can be listened to in its entirety under the title Red Chapter . The project was launched by multi-musician Géza Tamás Albert at the end of 2021 with the aim of creating concept albums that fully develop a given theme both musically and lyrically. His first album, The Flood (2021), tells the story of the biblical Flood. This was followed by his Blue Chapter EP in 2022, which delved into the first “chapters” of the Book of Revelation. He crowned all of this with his 9-song album, Red Chapter, which was released today , and whose theme was drawn entirely from the Book of Revelation."
Wayo (HUN) about Blue Chapter EP:
"The first half of The Lamb , which is mostly instrumental, builds on an interesting theme, while the second half feels like a completely new song. The Time Is Near is a dynamic death-doom song from start to finish, with the best solo on the entire EP, and the vocals add the most to this song. The threads of the songs all run along a common concept, the biblical Book of Revelation, and it is expected that Embertears' second album will also deal with this theme."
