Guitarist, composer, and bandleader Owen Chen is a versatile voice in the New York City music scene, known for blending modern and traditional jazz, cinematic soundscapes, and popular culture into vivid musical experiences. A classically trained violinist from the age of five, Owen holds a Master’s in Jazz Performance from NYU, having studied under contemporary leading figures in jazz guitar, including John Scofield, Peter Bernstein, and Adam Rogers, and a Bachelors from UC Berkeley.
His original music explores the emotional resonance of jazz through the lens of anime soundtracks, symphonic textures, and improvisational storytelling with his quintet — a fusion that shaped his debut album, Eternal (2022). Owen performs regularly across the city with his jazz quintet, violin-guitar duo, and “Eternal Wind” ensemble, including band-leading and arranging for the popular Studio Ghibli and Anime Jazz residencies at The Red Pavilion and residencies at jazz venues such as Bar Next Door and Laissez Faire.
Owen recorded an album with his Eternal Wind Quintet, comprised of Studio Ghibli arrangements (2025) and has performed and collaborated with the Official Studio Ghibli & Uniqlo brands.
