KEV SEV are a Newcastle-based four-piece blending funk, hip hop and indie rock into groove-driven, harmony-soaked live shows. Inspired by the absolute stank of funk, the driving tones of rock and the lyricism of 90s hip-hop, the band seamlessly blend bouncy basslines with gritty underground textures and poetic lyricism. Following packed-out shows at The Lass O’Gowrie and The Royal Oak, and the independent release of their debut single “Spoiled Youth,” KEV SEV are fast becoming a staple of the Newcastle and Sydney music scene — with their first festival slot at Gumball set for April.

Hailing from the Steel City of Newcastle, KEV SEV are a genre-bending four-piece carving out a distinct lane in the Australian indie underground. Fusing soulful harmonies with driving basslines and groove-heavy drums, their sound pulls from funk, hip hop, and indie rock, delivering sets that feel as immersive as they are danceable.

Drawing inspiration from artists like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Wild Cherry, Maribou State and 90s hip-hop, KEV SEV balance delicate melodic interplay with gritty, elastic low-end and raw, underground textures. The result is a sound that feels both nostalgic and forward-thinking - tight but unfiltered.

Despite being relatively fresh on the scene, KEV SEV have quickly built momentum across the Newcastle and Sydney DIY and pub circuits. Their recent support show at The Lass O'Gowrie Hotel and debut headline performance at The Royal Oak Hotel each drew crowds of over 250 people, driven entirely through grassroots promotion, independent marketing, and community buzz.

The band recently released their debut single, “Spoiled Youth,” recorded, mixed, mastered and promoted independently. The release has already earned airtime on local programs including the Newcastle Music Show, signalling strong early support from the community.

In April, KEV SEV will take their high-energy live set to Gumball in the Hunter Valley — marking their first festival appearance and the next step in their rapid ascent.
