Lakeside Amusement Park

A screamo/post-hardcore band from kelowna BC that draws upon 90s and 2000s screamo and metalcore. Bands that influence us include: counterparts, majority rule, alexisonfire, pageninetynine, neil perry, and william bonney.

Our members are Phoebe MacNeil (guitar, backing vocals), Jade Walters (bass, vocals), and Eli Barnet (drums). Phoebe has experience in the genre through her solo project Tennis Academy, while Eli spent two years in the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra and Jade performed extensively in her previous hardcore punk band Svengali. While all members are transgender, this occurred by happenstance– the true bond between us was forged via a shared passion for screamo as well as a desire to change the sonic landscape of the Okanagan DIY music scene.

Forming in 2024, we quickly self-recorded a three song demo live off the floor to gain exposure within the scene before starting to play shows in Kelowna. While we are the only screamo band currently active in Kelowna (or even the Okanagan), we have found comradery within both the local hardcore / indie scenes as well as the booming Vancouver and Vancouver Island screamo scenes. These connections led to a split release with Victoria screamo band Coup D’etat in April of 2025 and a release show with them in Vancouver shortly after. This release was also self recorded, though all the instruments were recorded individually as opposed to live off the floor. Since recording these releases, our primary focus has been on building connections with the broader DIY music community while also establishing the contemporary screamo sound within the local scene, setting up shows in the Okanagan to play with acts such as legendary bedroom Screamo band Your Arms are My Cocoon from Chicago, as well as many bands active within the Canadian screamo/hardcore scene such as Victoria’s A Recorded Dawn, Hose, Coup D’etat, and Sundiver, Edmonton’s SeeYouSoon, Calgary’s Garland Briggs, Alberta’s Astrology Girl, and Vancouver’s Mal Criado, Jisei, and Numb Dame. Having found that Kelowna is very receptive to screamo as a genre, our goal is to open up audiences to the breadth of bands and associated sounds currently active within the scene while also inspiring those who come to our shows to start their own bands and diversify the local scene. While we are based in Kelowna, we have a BC tour planned with Hamilton’s Constrain and Nanaimo’s Mourn Recif for Summer 2026.

Our approach to the genre is centred on intensely emotional instrumentals and song dynamics, as well as a lyrical vulnerability that leaves each song feeling like a confession. While our songs have unserious titles– usually something said as a joke at band practice– this serves to camouflage the emotional honesty of each song’s contents, functioning like a silly halloween mask over a disfigured face in tears. Our goal with upcoming EP The Quest for One Million Screamo Dollars is to display our growth as songwriters as well as capture our sound in a way that accurately represents the tone of our live performances
