META FROM THE DUB

Independent UK Artist | Rapper | Producer | Creative

"Meta From The Dub is an independent UK artist creating music in honour of a friendship, a shared dream, and the culture that inspired it."

ABOUT

Meta From The Dub is an independent UK artist whose music draws influence mainly from grime, UK rap, bass music, soundsystem culture, jazz, soul and underground electronic music.

Formerly releasing under the name Meta, the move to Meta From The Dub marks a new chapter while paying tribute to SouthDub, the collective founded alongside his best friend, Crags.

Rather than following trends or fitting neatly into one genre, Meta From The Dub focuses on creating music with authenticity and purpose. His catalogue ranges from hard-hitting 140bpm and grime records to more reflective, soulful releases that explore personal experiences and the world around him.

What makes the project unique, is its independence.

Every aspect of the creative process is handled personally, including recording, mixing, mastering, artwork design, branding, content creation and video editing.

While increasingly developing his skills as a producer, with releases such as "1 Of Them" and "Long Way Home" being self-produced, he remains passionate about collaboration and believes that some of the most exciting music comes from bringing different influences and perspectives together.

WHY I MAKE MUSIC

The reason I started making music again is simple: My best friend, Crags.

We grew up sharing the same passion for music and spent countless hours talking about ideas, making plans and dreaming about what could be possible. Music wasn't just something we enjoyed, it was the one thing we cared about most.

We had previously taken a hiatus from music, as we grew into our mid 20’s, we found that life started to become increasingly more difficult to juggle while pursuing our passion for music.

We had been having constant conversations throughout this hiatus, about returning to music, our one shared passion and the excitement we both felt about that concept kept us constantly planning and writing music that was unreleased.

When Crags passed away, I realised that walking away from music completely didn't feel right. The more I thought about it, the more I felt a responsibility to carry that energy forward and continue the dream that we both shared as young adults.

Meta From The Dub exists because of that.

The name itself is a tribute to SouthDub and the journey that started there.

Every release is my way of carrying a piece of that story forward and keeping a connection to someone who had a huge impact on my life.

At the same time, I don't want every song to be about grief. That's only one part of the story.

I want to create the kind of music that first made us fall in love with music in the first place. The records we'd send each other. The instrumentals we'd rewind. The songs we'd have blasting through speakers because they made us feel something.

Whether it's a reflective track like “Introspective" or a bass-heavy 140 record, my goal is the same.

I want to create music that feels genuine, music that I believe in, and music that I think Crags would enjoy hearing.

More than streams, followers or recognition, that's what drives me. If I can continue creating, keep learning and build something that he'd be proud of, then I'm doing exactly what I set out to do.

"I make music because it's the closest thing I have to a conversation with my past, my present and the people who helped shape me. Every release is an opportunity to learn something new, express something real and continue a journey that started many years ago with my best friend, Crags. My goal isn't to chase trends or fit into a particular box. It's to create music that feels honest, meaningful and worth sharing."
