Royal Commission - 'An Baile I Mo Chroí'

Royal Commission, the alias of Melbourne, Australia musician Dean Robb (ex-Guys Doing Stuff - as seen on ABC TV’s ‘rage’), have been releasing a single each month in 2026, most of which made up the debut album ‘Into Rock ‘n Roll’, released in September.

Usually described as alternative rock, post-punk, DIY, 'noise' occasionally, 'outsider' probably, and there are a few 'nice' ones where a bit of melody or a singalong comes through too, this month Royal Commission offer something very different.

Irish for 'The Home In My Heart' and pronounced 'An Bol-yeh Ee Mo Khree', this song is about a trip to Rathlin Island (about 10km off the coast of the mainland) to meet distant family.

It's a bit folk, sort of trad, knowingly plastic Celt and a lot of side 2 of Led Zep III, which was mostly acoustic, folky stuff. I make that reference so as not to alienate the rock fans entirely, but if you're looking for the usual loud guitars and distorted vocals, you won't find them here! (But there's plenty on the debut album!)

‘An Baile I Mo Chroí’ is out November 9th. Listen to both the new single and the debut album below.
