About

Seán Looney writes folk songs that are observant, plainspoken, and built to last past a single listen.

The writing is rooted in place and story, specific enough to feel true, universal enough to travel. Acoustic at heart, but the arrangements serve the song rather than the form: sparse where sparse works, fuller where the song calls for it.

As well as folk influences such as Lankum and The Pogues, Seán utilises his classical music background to incorporate flavours of composers like Steve Reich and Gavin Bryars, using building blocks of the Minimalist movement to prop up his deep storytelling.

His debut single, Prátaí, comes out on the 13th of July 2026.

Based in Cork, Ireland · active since 2025.

Prátaí is about finding a place in the world after feeling lost. This can be a location, a calling or even a person. Once you find that security, you can dig a foundation and build yourself up again. It is a song about finding peace after some time of longing.
